The Church of WoW

Posted in Gamer Nerd, Musics, World of Warcraft at 8:15 am by Mina

My crazy little brain made an interesting parallel today: directing my church choir is pretty much exactly the same as leading a World of Warcraft raid team.

I’ve been doing both for some weeks now, and I’m actually rather surprised I haven’t thought of it before. Each week I have to figure out who’s going to be around. Each week I plan something that the people I have available to me are capable of doing. Each week something invariably happens that I did not plan, and it’s up to me to deal with it somehow.

So then I start to think about why I find the choir so much less frustrating and more rewarding. I can come up with two reasons easily: I don’t have to figure out each week what days to hold choir on, and I don’t have to worry that we’ll be unable to accomplish anything at all if the whole choir doesn’t show. The days are set, and we do something with whoever we have. More chaotic, perhaps, but far less stressful.

If Muffin Hunter raiding starts up again, and I’m hoping it will, I think this will be a very useful lesson to keep in mind.

A game reviewer is me!

Have a look at this here review some chick named Ama wrote on the amazingly funny pd.com. I don’t promise it’s anything like as good as the reviews posted by the Darien man himself, but hey, gotta start somewhere, yes?

Spell damage weapons are for chumps

King’s Defender, bitches. First time doing chess. Hadn’t bothered to tank the front half before tackling the harder stuff in the back, cause I’m that hardcore. Pally tanks ftw. Oh, and she’s a pretty dorf lady, too!

A very expensive hobby

Posted in Gamer Nerd, Warhammer 40K at 4:27 pm by Mina

Back in December (you know, the last time I actually updated this silly thing) the husband got a Christmas bonus consisting of $100 worth of gift certificates that can be used at various stores around our downtown. So a couple weeks ago we walked down to the games store and stared at many things before deciding to pick up the Warhammer 40k fourth edition starter box. Even though we managed to spend all one hundred of our free monies, I didn’t fully realize what I was getting myself into…

Fast forward a few weeks: I now have a table full of half-painted little bug men and we keep going down to the games store to get more paints, models, and assorted related tools. I’ve so far kept the expensive purchases to a minimum, but they’ll be piling up as I get my mini-army set and need to flesh it out. Meanwhile, pretty soon I’ll have pictures of some very amateurish Tyranids to show off! And eventually we’ll get around to actually playing the game. No, really.

Masquerade Gown FTW

Isn’t it beautiful? Goes great with the crazy glowy orb shoulders I got the other day, too. It does not, however, go so well with my red-tipped clown gloves, which is why I did not bother to wear them for the picture. Yes, I’m terrible- I will sacrifice any amount of accuracy for a good screenshot. :-P

A little Karazhan tour

Posted in World of Warcraft at 7:21 pm by Mina

Having cleared out a whole bunch of bosses in Karazhan and following that up with finishing my attunement for my pretty priesty, I decided to go exploring in Medivh’s chambers the other night for kicks. Found some cool stuff, I did.

After that long climb all the way to the top of the tower, I needed to take a little nap on Medivh’s bed. I don’t think he minded.

Then I poked around the living room and found this portrait on the wall. I’m pretty sure it’s of Hamirack back before he started losing his hair.

Finally I finished the trek up to the top. This room looks somewhat much more boring without a giant Eredar in it, but doesn’t that look a little bit like Castle Greyskull off in the distance there?

Hopefully soon Chis will get her chance to meet all the baddies in the tower, too! :-D

Prince and Illhoof == DOWN!

Posted in World of Warcraft at 12:38 am by Mina

Well, kids, the MH/UU Kara team is on a fricking roll. After 3-manning the Shade of Aran to start off the evening, we one-shotted old Prince Malchezaar for our very first kill and, since we had so much time left over, beat our heads against Terestian Illhoof until we convinced him to drop some shiny purple lewtz too. Unfortunately, said lewts were stupid throwing knives that no one wanted (an occupational hazard of bringing only pallies, druids and hunters, don’t you know) but hey, he’s dead. What an awesome team we have. You guys rock. :-D

I am an insult to hardcore raiders everywhere.

Posted in World of Warcraft at 10:15 pm by Mina

Why, you ask? Well, because with about 30 minutes work I got my pretty little priesty one of these. Apparently, or so the forum kids tell me, this is an insult to people who spent weeks wiping on Maggie to get this, which is just a little bit better.

Know what I say to that? QQ, kids! Maybe someday you’ll grow up and learn that the fact that someone else has something doesn’t negate the fact that you have it too. Or, for that matter, that what someone else has isn’t really any of your damn business. But I’m not holding my breath.
